About Gauger Percussion Inc.
The Invention of RIMS®:
Gary Gauger invented the original RIMS® mount in the mid 1970's when he was a working drummer. From his first drum set as a teenager, he observed the issues caused by traditional drum mounting and how it negatively affected the drum's ability to resonate naturally. After he invented RIMS®, he took his drums into the recording studio he was working at in Minneapolis, and the engineers were stunned at how different his drums sounded. When he showed them what he had come up with, they encouraged him to do something with it to make it available to other drummers.

How RIMS® Took Off:
After getting some basic protection for RIMS®, Gary started showing his invention to the leaders of various drum companies. Ludwig, Slingerland, Remo, etc., all of them passed on the idea. None of them could understand what it did for drums, and some were offended at the idea that their would be something that could make their drums sound better. But word was starting to get out about RIMS®, and when drummers saw pictures of the system, they understood what it did immediately. Gary started getting calls from some of the top recording drummers in Los Angeles: Jim Keltner, Kenny Aronoff, Russ Kunkel, Steve Schaeffer, Larrie Londin, Kenny Malone, and more. Gary was making RIMS® by hand in his garage, and just trying to keep up with orders.

PureCussion Days:
When business and marketing investment did finally come to RIMS®, it was in the forming of PureCussion in the mid 1980's. They licensed RIMS® from Gary, and while they were able to produce, market, and move RIMS® in a big way, lack of quality control and overall distrust left Gary unhappy with the partnership. It did lead to the co-creation of the RIMS® HeadSet, which Gary invented along side a lead engineer with PureCussion. The two of them worked extremely well together, and complemented each other's skill sets in the making of the kit.

After PureCussion:
When PureCussion decided to close it's doors in the mid 1990's, Gary received ownership back of all his ideas. While the RIMS® patent was expiring, he still owned the trademark, and he was finally free to make improvements on his original design and produce the extremely high quality product he always wanted. This lead to the RIMS® Alloy mount we sell today.

GPI Today:
GPI manufactures RIMS® Alloy Pro Series, as well as the Dynamount™ Floor Tom System, Flex Frame™ Snare Stand Isolation System, Flex Tips™ Floor Tom Leg Isolators, Lockerz™ Tension Rod Locks, and SticPod™ Multi-Angle Stick Holder. Everyone at GPI are drummers, as well as artists in other capacities. Over the years, many mounting systems have come out that claim to do what RIMS® do, but they all ignore the basic and essential elements involved in mounting a drum so it is isolated and able to resonate freely. We continue to make the only isolation mounting system for drum set.
