RIMS® HeadSet™ Models developed by GPI and produced by Purecussion.
First PTS Model: 1st set produced by Purecussion used Remo PTS (pre-tuned) Heads.
These heads were the first heads used on the original HaedSet™. These The The first HeadSets™used PTS (pre-tuned system) heads made by Remo Inc. They used a chemical process to shrink the Mylar material. It was a process developed by Remo in the early 80s. The heads used a built in hoop that held the Mylar tightly after the plastic material was shrunk within the hoop. It had a chrome tape that encircled the hoop which was about 1" deep. The head had a pitch after it was dried and could not be changed. The heads were pitched in 3 different tunings, low, medium and high. Purecussion termed the heads Low or medium pitch for rock tuning and high for jazz tuning.
Second Model/ Tunable PTS Heads:
The second set Purecussion produced used a tunable PTS Head that was developed by Remo using a mechanical clamping of the Mylar head in place of the chemical process but using the same hoop with glue to hold the material in place after it was clamped into the hoop or frame. The heads were all low pitch and could be tuned using a small device called a 'PEG' . There were usually 6 to 8 PEGS on each tom depending on the diameter of the drum. A drum key would cause a small lever to pivot on a circular frame under the head to raise the pitch from low to high alowing the set to be tuned.
Third Model RIMS® NE HeadSet™
This set was the most popular set since it used standard drum heads
in place of the PTS heads. Purecussion began using Evans Drum Heads
as standard equipment for all HeadSets™ produced until 1997 when Purecussion closed its doors with all patents and trademark licenses returning to GPI.
